State Universities in Ohio


Ohio State University was founded in 1870 in accordance with the Morrill Act of 1862. Originally intended to enhance Ohio's farming community the Ohio State University evolved from agriculture and incorporated mechanical disciplines as a primary discipline. Currently the Ohio State University system boasts 13 four year universities and 8 regional campuses. Fulfilling the Ohio State University system are 25 two year and technical schools as well as five private colleges that are religiously affiliated.

Originally Ohio State Universities were designed to enhance Ohio's rich farming community. As the curriculums evolved interests in mechanics, engineering, and journalism as well as doctorate programs in medicine and science emerged.

Ohio State Universities are recognized for outstanding achievements. A recent undergraduate rankings report noted three universities ranking within the top 100 of colleges examined worldwide. This includes particular recognition for Ohio University's school of journalism and University of Akron's Polymer Science and engineering programs. Ohio State University's journalism program is considered the premiere journalism program in the nation.

Adding to the Ohio State Universities is a solid athletics program. Ohio State Universities are recognized as formidable team and competitors in athletics. Ohio State Universities develop strong football, baseball, and basketball teams as well as leadership in golf, track and field, and wrestling.

Tuition costs for Ohio State Universities range based on the degree program, student residency, and whether the student will require on-campus housing. For the coming Fall semester Ohio residents can expect tuition and fees of approximately $10,000 with room and board adding an additional $10,000 for the coming year. Out of state students can expect tuition and fees just over $25,000 with an additional $10,000 in room and board. Like many university systems Ohio State offers a variety of dining and housing plans to assist in costs. It should also be noted these are not fixed costs instead offering a range of expected costs. As with similar programs across the nation, a variety of programs exist to help students with the cost of their higher education pursuits. Tuition payment programs, student loans, and grants and scholarships offer students unique payment opportunities.
